Having been admitted more than half a dozen times since my cancer diagnosis, I have been a patient on most of the units and areas at Spartanburg Medical Center. Three of those admissions have been to the Cancer Center. To be a patient in this area already says that my condition is nothing to take for granted - definitely some unnerving and unexpected bumps in the road I am traveling. My wife and I have never been as comfortable as we are when we are in Oncology. 

On my second visit, I was brought over from another part of the hospital after being hospitalized for several days. I was in a hospital bed and being transported, like all patients, to the Oncology unit. When I came through the doors to the Oncology unit, Jessica, along with a few others, was waiting for me to arrive. I cannot explain the sense of “relief” and “warmth” we felt when we saw them waiting along with Jessica to greet me. It was like I was being welcomed home. 

What sets Jessica apart is the gift she has of sweeping all fears and concerns under the rug with her never-ending smile. She exemplifies compassion and care that cannot be taught in nursing schools. As a patient, this nurse makes me feel that no matter the results or outcome, it is going to be okay because she is right here by our side. Laughter and sunshine are brought into our room each time she walks in. My wife and I thank you for having Jessica on staff to help us get through these stressful moments along our journey.
