Sometimes as a nurse, you get a chance to support someone who isn't a patient but who has crossed into your life in need of some sort of support. Tammy works every Thursday night at LCED. I am with her every other Thursday. I have noticed over the last few months that around midnight every Thursday, a young woman comes into the ED. She asks if she can use our scale to measure her weight loss because her scale at home does not reach the weight that she needs. Over these last few months, Tammy has developed a connection with this woman. She meets her at the scale and encourages her in her progress. I happened to walk past the other day when this was happening and was very warmed by the interaction between them. At this point in time, the woman had plateaued on her weight loss. She was frustrated and Tammy was giving her truly heartfelt encouragement that she was very receptive to. This is just a simple gesture that can be a huge step in helping this woman reach her goals! Tammy goes out of her way to make sure that she talks to this woman when she comes in.
