We are nominating Laura for a DAISY Award because of her continued commitment to patient care and safety. Several months ago, our department had an outpatient who was admitted to Laura for a routine procedure. Part of the admission is to screen patients for at-home safety and suicide risk. The patient admitted to having thoughts of harming herself. Laura investigated this further and concluded the patient was a threat to herself. After admitting the patient for her procedure, Laura began the process of notifying the patient's primary physician. Laura did not feel safe sending this patient home, so she spent quite a long time making phone calls and was able to schedule an appointment with the patient's primary doctor immediately following the outpatient procedure. This is no easy task, given our department's consistently busy schedule. The family was in agreement and was able to be transported directly to the physician's office. This is just a small example of how she promotes safety and well-being for our patients. She leads with a caring heart and will go the extra mile for her patients and staff.
