Your work extended far beyond the hospital walls and became a lasting source of hope and comfort.
Today, I feel deeply grateful to share what the work of a nurse truly means in the life of a family.

A little over a year ago, my mother was admitted to the hospital after suffering a massive stroke. During a time filled with anguish and uncertainty, we met Blanca Rodríguez, whom we affectionately call Blanquita. From the very first moment, she made us feel accompanied and supported.

My father, who was always a warm and loving man, often said how much peace it gave him to see Blanquita during my mother’s care. He said that with her, he knew my mom was in good hands because he saw in her something rare: genuine vocation, deep respect, and a heart full of humanity. After several long months in intensive care, my mother passed away.

While we were still mourning her loss, life brought us back to the same hallway when my father was admitted to intensive care, just a few cubicles away from where my mother had been. To our surprise, the one who welcomed us again was Blanquita. My father recognized her immediately and said with joy, “It’s so good to see you. I know I’m in very good hands.” That moment stayed in my memory, because even in such a painful situation, he felt safe and at peace when he saw her.

During that hospitalization, we received very difficult news. My father’s condition was severe, and the outlook was not encouraging. In those moments of despair, a single look, gesture, or hug from Blanquita was enough to give us strength. Her quiet, empathetic presence held us up when words were no longer enough. She knew how to comfort us with deep respect and understanding, offering reassurance without overstepping.

Losing both of our parents within months, in the same hospital, was a devastating experience. No one prepares you for something like that. Yet amid such pain, having Blanquita by our side was a true blessing. She was steady when our hearts were breaking, a calm and compassionate light who reminded us that we were not alone.

Beyond her professional excellence, what makes Blanquita truly special is the way she touches lives and leaves an indelible mark. She cared for our parents with dedication and love, and she cared for us, their children, with the same empathy and warmth.

Blanquita, thank you for being with us in the most difficult moments of our lives. Your work extended far beyond the hospital walls and became a lasting source of hope and comfort. Thank you for your commitment, your vocation, and for showing us that a nurse not only cares for bodies but also holds souls. This recognition is only a small reflection of the enormous impact you have had on our family’s story.
