After all was said and done, while we took the patient upstairs, she mentioned a couple of times how much it helped her through the situation to have Jessica present there with her to give her a reassuring hand squeeze and an encouraging word while everyone else focused almost solely on stabilizing her so she could be transported up for further, more intense care.
I wanted to reach out to compliment Jessica on a recent experience I had working briefly with her on a rapid call. I work in the CDU, and she and a tech came over when a rapid was called on a patient who had been transferred to us from the ED just a few minutes before we needed to call a rapid.
Jessica was calm, as was everyone else working the call, but she took the time to focus on the patient and kept her calm also during what was a very scary moment for her. Jessica explained everything that was being done and why, while consistently encouraging the patient to focus on her breathing and repeating to her that we had her and she was safe. She held the patient's hand and was just so reassuring the entire time for her. I did tell Jessica personally how impressed I was at not only her nursing skills, but her exceptional bedside manner and calm during a crisis, but I wanted to make sure that you were aware also how much it meant to the patient and to me as a CNA and nurse in training to see that extra step taken to provide amazing emotional support while rendering medical care. It was very inspiring.
