He had an episode of nausea, and when Gina entered his room, she went right to work helping him by sitting him up, getting him a cool, wet cloth for his forehead, asking the Doctor for anti-nausea medication, and comforting him with her hand on his shoulder as he vomited.
My 85-year-old dad was a patient for 8 days. He was admitted for acute renal failure with no known cause. Though I couldn’t be with him all day, I was more comfortable leaving when Gina was his nurse. She had a kind and reassuring voice each time she entered his room. He mentioned her voice cheered him up! He had an episode of nausea, and when Gina entered his room, she went right to work helping him by sitting him up, getting him a cool, wet cloth for his forehead, asking the Doctor for anti-nausea medication, and comforting him with her hand on his shoulder as he vomited. Telling him she was sorry he was experiencing such discomfort. She could tell he was exhausted from the episode, so she asked if he wanted back in bed and helped transition him. She then noticed that his IV had dry blood around it, and she took the time to clean up his IV site and make that more comfortable for him as well. She also removed all old bandages from blood draws and got him a new gown. She treated my Dad as if he were her own family, and that meant the world to my dad, but especially to me. She continued to check up on him after administering the meds to help with the nausea and then even gave him a warm blanket. Gina has the knowledge and passion necessary to be a wonderful nurse. I am happy she was his nurse if even for 2 days.
