I have worked with Henry for a few years on the MICU and have witnessed many of his DAISY-worthy moments. During this particular shift, I was his nursing neighbor and witnessed Henry tirelessly advocate for his patient. The patient had multiple comorbidities that made certain interventions, such as line placement, difficult. He escalated his concerns to the medical team and advocated for improved vascular access to manage the patient's decompensation. Serious discussions took place regarding this patient's code status, and I observed Henry participating in the discussion with multiple members of his care team. Later, Henry heard the patient tell his wife that he "did not want to die with a beard," so Henry took the time out of his busy shift to shave his patient. Thank you, Henry, for showcasing compassion and fulfilling a patient's dying wish.
