Everything Sabrina did made me feel heard, cared for, and included in the care of both my babies.
I unexpectedly went into labor with transverse twins at 33 weeks and five days, which resulted in a C-section. Thankfully, Trinity Oakland was able to safely deliver both babies, who needed to go to the NICU immediately. This, in itself, was scary, as I didn't know what to expect, and everything was happening so fast. As soon as I was able to go see the babies in their incubators, I was immediately overwhelmed with all the Medical equipment, cords, and machines helping them breathe. Sabrina was our first day nurse to care for both B & E.
Sabrina could tell I was having a hard time, and she took the time to explain everything going on to me in detail. She started by easing my mind that the babies are doing great, just need a little extra help, as expected with their gestational age and birth. She explained what all the numbers on the screen meant for their breathing and heart rate, what the medical equipment was used for, and how it was helping the babies, as well as what to expect within the day's timeframe. She took the time to make sure I felt reassured and understood exactly what was going on. Sabrina answered every single question and even some before I could ask; she anticipated our needs and the concerned looks on my face. Sabrina went out of her way to explain things to us in layperson's terminology and gave us every opportunity to bond and hold our babies. I truly wish I could have her with our twins every day because I felt like she not only treated our babies like she would care for her own, but also made me feel so secure, confident, and loved during the whole process.
Today, our daughter E, was taking her first nippling of bottled breast milk and Sabrina sat down showing us exactly the best way to feed her explaining why she was holding her a certain way, why she held the bottle how she did making sure the nipple was on top of her tongue and showing the best way to burp her upright ensuring she had minimal spit up. Everything Sabrina did made me feel heard, cared for, and included in the care of both my babies. I cannot thank her enough and hope she continues to care for our babies as we get discharged and they have to stay behind to grow and get healthy enough to come home.
