1LT Christian A. Bergonia, NC, exemplifies the values of the DAISY Award through his innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to soldier care. 1LT Bergonia NC, Assistant Chief Nurse for Quality Assurance and Research at Fort Magsaysay Army Station Hospital, exemplifies compassionate innovation in military nursing. He has led transformative initiatives that elevated patient care and operational efficiency, most notably launching a cost-saving, eco-friendly digital Patient Satisfaction Survey system that replaced manual processes and improved feedback accuracy.
Driven by a vision for better healthcare delivery, he spearheaded the development of the hospital’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and eKonsulta at Fort Magsaysay Army Station Hospital, both of which earned recognition from the Department of Health. His research on these projects, "Acceptance of Health Care Workers of Fort Magsaysay Army Station Hospital for EHR and eKonsulta System," was presented at the PANS and AFP Nursing Research Forum in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Dedicated to the mental health of soldiers, 1LT Bergonia conducted the landmark study Effectiveness of TRiM in Promoting Mental Health Access in Combat Zones, highlighting critical gaps and solutions in battlefield mental health care. He further investigated soldier well-being through his research on Lifestyle Choices, Occupational Stressors, and Well-Being of the 7th Infantry Division Personnel and its Tenant Units, both earning top honors and podium presentations at national forums.
Beyond research, he elevated nursing practice through the development of updated audit tools aligned with V. Luna Medical Center standards, ensuring consistency and quality in quarterly assessments.
