No patient is having a good day, but some patients on their bad days are much harder than others. Nurse Kailea was responsible for helping just such a patient. He was upset. About anything he could be upset about, and everything he could think of. He was rude, demeaning, brash, abrasive, and seemed like he wanted people to try NOT to empathize with him. Kailea handled his calls (sometimes seconds after she left his room) with grace, empathy, kindness, gentleness, and sincerity. She did everything she humanly could have to give him everything he requested, going well above the call of duty, without a single harsh word, smart comeback, witty repartee, or raised voice. I have seldom seen such an understanding display on the part of any employee in any professional setting. Workers like Kailea, and honestly, the entire team she worked with, demonstrated exactly why OU Health is the Oklahoma standard for healthcare. She and her entire team deserve your thanks, a gift card for coffee, and probably a bottle of tequila for their strength, determination, and professionalism.
