The sacrifices that she has made throughout her career to provide care for others are truly admirable.
Role Model Compassionate Care:
Sue consistently demonstrates compassionate care by prioritizing her patients' needs. She has been a nurse for over 40 years, working through the AIDS epidemic as well as the most recent COVID-19 epidemic. She takes the time to listen to her patients and their families, tailoring her care to their specific needs. While a significant part of being a nurse is being medically competent, Sue has provided emotional support to patients and staff in distress on numerous occasions. Always being a beacon of peace and hope to families and staff. As a new grad, I, along with many other new grads and seasoned nurses, have been able to lean on Sue for support and reassurance. No question was too stupid, and she always encouraged me to keep my head up and keep going when times got hard.

Special Connection:
Sue has countlessly made special connections with patients and their families. She makes every patient feel heard and seen during the chaos of their stay, and she advocates for them as if they were her own family. Any patient would be lucky to have her as their nurse.

Significant Difference:
Sue always takes the time to get to know her patients, whether she is behind schedule or not. She herself has worked selflessly while being treated for cancer, and that alone speaks volumes to who she is at her core. The sacrifices that she has made throughout her career to provide care for others are truly admirable. She is a pillar of strength for not only her biological family but also her work family. As the recent changes in the unit have been difficult, Sue always comes in with a smile on her face and always lifts the spirits of the staff and patients on the floor. She always reminds us of the good, even in the chaos, and always celebrates our wins, no matter how small. I truly couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this award than Sue. She will truly be missed, but the difference she has made will be forever impactful, not only in the way I and other nurses show up with integrity for our patients, but also in the countless lives and families she has impacted over the past 40 years. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
