I would like to recognize the excellent and compassionate care my father received while at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital. As part of the nursing team, I would like to nominate Jennifer for a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Jennifer was working in the ICU unit with my father. While not specifically assigned to Dad, she assisted in his med administration and other medical tasks, especially when two staff members were needed. Jennifer came into the ICU one night around 2:00 am just in time to catch me in the middle of an emotional meltdown. She asked how she could help. She offered a hug (which I took) and seemed like she was an angel sent at the perfect time. The next night, while administering meds, she asked me to tell her a story about Dad. It was easy to come up with a funny one, and she suggested I write them down for future generations to appreciate and as a way for them to get to know him. The following night, when I arrived to stay with my dad, she was there with a gift of two journals for me to start writing my memories! I was beyond surprised!! For an almost stranger who works a 12-hour shift to give me her time, even though it adds on to her long day-she stops and buys me a very special gift??!! That is a personal connection that I will remember each time I read/write a story! Thank you and bless you for giving me such a meaningful personal connection, Jennifer!
