My boyfriend, M, was in the hospital for 4 days with C-Diff. That meant scrubbing in and scrubbing out every time you came into the room, touched anything in the room, and especially after helping to clean up M after one of his many trips to the commode. Nancy was the nurse who cared for M more than any other, and she was amazing! She was sweet, caring, patient, and gentle with M – who can sometimes get a little cranky when he hasn’t had a cigarette in days. Haha! But she was also sweet, caring, patient, and gentle with me as I dealt with my concern for M, anxiety about how to keep him safe at home, and my natural instinct to step in to take care of him myself – because it is my everyday life. She made me feel welcome to help, instead of as though I was in the way. She always asked me if I needed anything and always asked if I had any questions for her. After several experiences where the nursing staff had been gruff, dismissive, and acted as though the patient was more trouble than they were worth, it was amazing to have Nancy S. there with a smile on her face and a constant presence of kindness, care, and laughter!
