Kilynn had told me earlier that she would help wash my hair so it would not have to be cut off.
Kilynn was nominated by a patient. She was recognized for her “empathy, compassion, and caring.” The patient described Kilynn as a “difference maker.” Part of the nomination follows. “I was in the ER for a head injury after sustaining a fall. My long hair was saturated in blood. The hair was extremely matted and dried to my head. Kilynn had told me earlier that she would help wash my hair so it would not have to be cut off. She and another nurse worked on my hair. It was a painstaking process. Even though her shift ended, Kilynn stayed an hour more to finish the job. She knew it was likely my hair would need to be cut if it wasn’t cleaned and brushed. She cared about how I was feeling and knew I was miserable. It helped so much, and her kindness will not be forgotten!” The DAISY Award is an esteemed international recognition program that acknowledges the compassionate care nurses provide daily and the impact they have on patients and their families. We thank Kilynn for embodying our Franciscan values in her work every day.
