It is with great admiration and respect that we nominate Anthony Giorno, BSN, RN, for the DAISY Award. Anthony is exceptionally resolute, compassionate, and a true collaborator. His commitment to patient care and support for his colleagues exemplifies the highest standards of nursing.

Anthony consistently attends to individuals’ needs, going above and beyond. He treats both patients and teammates with unwavering respect, fostering a culture of kindness and professionalism throughout our unit.

One example of Anthony’s exceptional care occurred during a particularly busy shift when a patient in emotional distress became increasingly agitated and unable to manage their emotions. Anthony calmly approached the situation, spoke gently with the patient, and was able to de-escalate the tension without involving security. His ability to connect with patients in their most vulnerable moments is truly remarkable.

In another instance, Anthony noticed that a nonverbal patient was exhibiting signs of discomfort that others had overlooked. He advocated for the patient, coordinated with the care team, and ensured that the patient received extra support to help provide care and comfort. His diligence and empathy made a significant difference in that patient’s experience.

Anthony also consistently offers to participate in initiatives aimed at improving patient care and experience. Additionally, he never hesitates to lend a hand, whether it is assisting with managing the milieu or offering emotional support to a teammate after a difficult case.

His selflessness, empathy, and tireless dedication make him an invaluable team member. Anthony’s unwavering commitment to nursing truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
