This letter is in support of Jens Flemming, an outstanding member of the UWMC Northwest campus RN nursing staff, for the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. Jens’s watchful care made my week with Covid pneumonia into a real learning experience. I’ve been gaining new knowledge on how to take care of my lungs through a discussion with Jens on how to use respiratory fitness gadgets effectively, in order to improve my lung function. Jens' skillful, compassionate care is a credit to his profession. His friendly, compassionate care is given in an empathetic manner. His dry sense of humor adds to his effective “teaching Style”.

As a kindergarten teacher for 40 years. I really appreciate his ability to stay positive and constantly committed to quality care. Jens' sterling quality is that he is dedicated to going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of the patients he cares for. For example, Jens tracked down the pharmacist to find me extra cough syrup to tame my wracking coughs. Jens also found a pulmonologist to order a home nebulizer for me to continue my lung treatments. When leaving this hospital, he literally goes above and beyond to make his patients feel loved, respected, and healthier for being part of  UW Medicine.
