I am proud to nominate Marissa Hiatt, a fantastic nurse on our Cardiac ICU. She recently showed incredible dedication and empathy for a patient and his wife, and I think it perfectly embodies what The DAISY Award is all about.

The patient and his wife had been with us for almost two weeks. They were from out of town, and their daughter had just moved to Muncie without much in the way of furniture. Because of this, his wife had been sleeping in the unit's recliner, in her jeans, for nearly the entire time.

Marissa saw how uncomfortable and stressed they must be. So, Marissa took action! She tracked down some clean clothes for his wife to change into, but the real game-changer was when she found a way to get a second bed into a bigger corner room. She moved both the patient and his wife there, so they could finally be truly comfortable and close to each other while he's still getting the care he needs.

Marissa really thought outside the box to make a difficult situation so much better for this family.
