My brother hadn't had a chance to meet Yarrow until recently, and was so impressed with how Mom's face lit up when she got to the floor from the ED and saw that Yarrow would again be her RN.
We can't say enough good things about our mother's nurse, Yarrow, and the amazing care he has taken of her during her hospitalizations over the past 6 weeks. Mom is 78 years old and has a very complex medical history. Early on, she developed a sigmoid volvulus, which required emergency decompression and hospitalization for subsequent sigmoidectomy. Shortly after being discharged, she was hospitalized twice for sepsis and other complications from that surgery. As you can imagine, this has been an extremely scary and emotional time for our mom and our family, but we've been fortunate enough to have Yarrow as one of the RNs caring for her during her recovery.
Not only has he shown excellent clinical skills and professionalism, but he's been unfailingly kind and caring with our mom, my siblings, and me. He has carefully managed countless medications administered through multiple IV lines, efficiently navigating her plan of care, which seems to change several times daily due to the severity of her illness requiring the involvement of several different specialty groups. Mom has extreme difficulty ambulating due to Parkinson's disease and weakness from this current illness, but Yarrow has made sure she is always safe and treated with dignity. He's answered all our questions (so many questions!), has acted as a liaison between us and the clinicians, and has been incredibly compassionate throughout. My brother hadn't had a chance to meet Yarrow until recently, and was so impressed with how Mom's face lit up when she got to the floor from the ED and saw that Yarrow would again be her RN. We had been concerned about her emotional state while in the ER, and were so relieved when we saw her smile and an immediate lifting of her mood. We could go on and on, but I hope this paints a good picture of just how extraordinary Yarrow is. We are honored to nominate him for the DAISY Award.
