She coached, supported, and worked tirelessly through the shift to advocate for my wife's needs.
My wife and I were admitted to L&D and immediately discovered that our baby did not survive. We were informed that the baby would still have to be delivered and had to make a plan to that end. It was early evening when we were assigned a room, and the process of care was explained to us. At the shift change, Audrey entered the room, introduced herself, and told us that she would be with us through the night.

There are different kinds of people in every job field: those who genuinely want to help people and those who are just there for a paycheck. Audrey did more than just her job. She sat with my wife, who is also a nurse, at different points in the night and talked about the ups and downs of nursing. Being in the situation of knowing that our child is no longer alive but still had to be delivered is a parent's worst nightmare.

Audrey and the midwife expressed compassion and sensitivity to our tragedy. She coached, supported, and worked tirelessly through the shift to advocate for my wife's needs. She never once made either of us feel as if the birth of our son, being a stillbirth, was any different or less important than any other birth.

When our baby was born, she did everything she could to help keep his little body from deteriorating too fast so that we had time to hold him. We were given time to admire our son and his every feature, which we tried to permanently sear into our memories. Audrey scoured the hospital for sandwiches despite it being 3 a.m. and delivered the most beautiful box of keepsakes that we will cherish.

Audrey is everything that a person could want in a nurse: she's compassionate, sensitive, attentive, and caring. Her devotion to her patients and their babies, regardless of the baby's condition, makes her more than deserving of this DAISY award. We can never thank her enough.
