Molly exemplifies what a great nurse and even better human being should be. There is a patient in the ICU who, we found out hours after his admission, had to leave his animals behind at home with no one to care for them. The case manager explained that they had reached out to Animal Control to assist; however, there is no place for a beloved family pet, and they had not been in touch with the patient. I reached out to Molly as she had offered to help in situations like this, if the need ever arose. Molly immediately responded to me with a yes, on her day off, and was at the hospital within an hour to pick up the patient's keys and get all of the necessary information to allow her to help this patient's "family members." Molly has always been eager to help patients, whether they are on her unit or on any other unit in the hospital. Molly exemplifies the values of Love Me for not only her patients and unit, but for any patient who is in need, especially if their pets need help. As a community provider, I hope that staff like Molly are rewarded for ensuring that our patients feel safe, cared for, and loved by not only making sure that they receive the necessary medical care for whatever their situation is; but that we ensure that these small "families" are not torn apart due to illness and support them to get through this process as quickly and safely as possible, if we work together to help out patients (and their families), our impact in the community will be returned a thousand fold.
