We had a patient on 3west who was admitted from a long-term nursing facility with a rare drug-resistant infection. The only medication that would treat the infection was not covered by any insurance and would cost the patient over $8000 per week to administer. The patient was a long-term care resident with no income and no living family who could assist him. If the patient did not return to his nursing home within a certain number of days, he was going to be evicted. Rowena called multiple patient medication assistant programs in the state, wrote letters, and completed application forms on the patient's behalf due to her creative thinking and persistence. The patient received a medication grant for his much-needed treatment and was able to return to his nursing home without being evicted.
