She empowers her staff to care for our unit and patients as a team by providing us with the proper resources - physically, emotionally, and mentally - to get the job done right the first time.
Iris brings a bright and fresh energy to our unit every single day. She exemplifies what it means to be a CNH nurse by demonstrating Connection, Commitment, and Compassion with her staff in every situation and context.
Iris Connects with her team by intentionally walking the entire Radiology unit at the start of her shift and speaking with each of the nurses and staff, checking in on them both professionally and personally, and always asking if there is anything she can do for them throughout the day. She will always ensure that we know how we can reach her. She also makes a note of when a part of her team might need her throughout their shift and will intentionally check back in with them at that point to see if she can help them out.
Iris Commits herself to her role as Nurse Manager by advocating for her team and getting tasks done as soon as a nurse or staff member approaches her about them. She empowers her staff to care for our unit and patients as a team by providing us with the proper resources - physically, emotionally, and mentally - to get the job done right the first time. Iris will check in with her team until a task is completed and always make herself available to help in any way we may need. She is always the first to change out of her office uniform into a pair of scrubs and get in with the other nurses to make sure we have all the help we need to properly care for our patients.
Lastly, Iris is Compassionate with her team by always having her door open, figuratively and literally, for us to come in and speak with her. I remember when I was shadowing before being hired on the Radiology unit, that the one thing every single nurse told me was how kind and caring Iris was to each of the nurses she oversees, and that they always felt comfortable being able to approach Iris about anything and everything. As I have grown and become a part of this unit myself, I have experienced firsthand Iris's kindness and caring attitude, and I have been able to approach her as both a boss and a friend. Iris takes the time and effort needed to get to know each of her nurses on a personal level and will make every attempt to connect with them. She intentionally places nurses in areas where she knows we will excel, but pushes us at the same time to grow as individual employees and expand our areas within the unit. I believe that Iris carries herself with the heart of a true DAISY Nurse, and because of this, she is deserving of this award.
