Had Jenny not been in both of those places that day, the lives of two individuals and their families could have been changed forever.
Recently, Jenny was working out at her local YMCA when a man nearby on a treadmill suddenly collapsed. People immediately surrounded him and started shouting for help. Jenny sprang into action. She ran over to where the crowd was gathered and assessed the man. He did not have a pulse. She quickly started CPR while someone grabbed an AED. After a few rounds of CPR and a shock from the AED, the man came to.
A few hours later, when she stopped for lunch at her local Panera Bread, someone started shouting for help, saying that they needed a doctor. Again, Jenny sprang into action and ran toward the commotion. On the floor lay a 6-week-old baby who was in obvious distress. Jenny assessed the baby, found he had no pulse, and began CPR. The mother of the baby was naturally distraught, and Jenny comforted her with calm words while she worked on her baby. After a couple of rounds of CPR and some back slaps, the baby started to cry.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital and are recovering just fine. Had Jenny not been in both of those places that day, the lives of two individuals and their families could have been changed forever. To me, she is a hero and an example of a nurse who goes beyond the line of duty.
