Knowing I needed to have bloodwork done in the morning, she decided to take the blood herself instead of allowing the lab to do it, even though it meant she stayed over her shift.
I was admitted to JW after visiting the ER for a blood transfusion. I had open heart surgery at UVA for a valve replacement and spent 12 days in the hospital. While they attempted to get my INR levels in the correct range, it required lots of needles and IVs- even after being discharged, I still had to endure lab work multiple times a week. My veins are small, and I have lots of scar tissue, which makes getting blood from me very difficult. Nurse Ti took care of me on the overnight shift, and she was beyond compassionate and respectful. Knowing I needed to have bloodwork done in the morning, she decided to take the blood herself instead of allowing the lab to do it, even though it meant she stayed over her shift. I’ve been exposed to many different medical personnel in my 60 years, but I have never had one who was as selfless and caring as this one. Earlier in the evening, my IV needed to be re-inserted due to redness and swelling. I asked the prior floor nurse about the swelling and redness, but nothing was done. I was super uncomfortable for several hours. I asked Nurse Ti about the IV, and she immediately changed it, which brought lots of relief! You can tell she cares about her patients and is a nurse in the true sense- it’s in her heart!
