DeAndra had a patient who was newly enrolled with DW and was having difficulty collaborating in the assessment appointment. Using her professional and caring MI skills, DeAndra gained the patient's trust, and she opened up about food insecurity and having to move in with her daughter in order to have food. DeAndra identified that the patient was residing near the church that DeAndra attends. She asked the patient for permission to reach out to her church pastor. The patient agreed. DeAndra was able to connect with the pastor, and he personally delivered a food box to the patient. The patient was so grateful and thanked him and DeAndra for the assistance. DeAndra exemplifies the Duke values in her work with all her patients, but this example shows how one person can make a profound impact on the life of another, and the work the DW does every day to support those in need in our community.
