Our family nominates Sandy Bramble for exceptional care during our mother’s stay on 2W. While in Sandy’s care, Mom underwent 2 surgeries to remove cancer from her lung. Sandy was exceedingly patient with our questions and my mother during what became an increasingly complex series of events. Sandy listened attentively, assessing our mothers’ needs and preferences in a manner that provided options. We cannot stress enough how Sandy’s extraordinary assessment skills fueled productive conversations between ourselves, the surgical team, and the rest of the staff.

Add to this that our 81-year-old mother is a former RN. Sandy was able to translate the old to new medical methodologies and care techniques in key instances. This made a HUGE difference in our mother’s confidence and energy. Without Sandy, our family would not have been able to comprehend options; Sandy quite literally shines a light on a path forward. Also worth noting, Sandy represented her team well. There were several staff members who came and went with gentle teases about their teammates and the surgeons. We appreciate this method to make conversation with the patient; however, Sandy shared stories of her family, their pets, and herself to manage conversation while being pointedly complimentary of her teammates, professional, no matter the time of day or business of the ward. This is how we found Sandy; she advocated for our mother, family, and her team, sincerely above and beyond GEM! Please consider Sandy for this Award, she is so deserving.
