My brother was a patient in the ICU. My brother was on a ventilator, so he could not talk to Sarah. However, he could nod his head yes or no for a few days. She asked us questions to get to know my brother better. She went so far above and beyond every day; she was so caring and gentle. She even used her own cell phone to play the old country music that my brother liked for her whole shift when she worked.

Towards the end of his stay, he was to the point where he only let Sarah do his suction and everything. We had to make the hardest decision to take my brother off the ventilator to let him pass on. Sarah was so supportive of me, my mom, and my other brother. She was there for us when he took his last breath. She was an angel, honestly. She guided us through it all with such compassion and empathy. She herself was emotional and hugged us all and told us how very sorry she was. She made such a large impact on my brother and our family. I will never forget her and what she did for me and my family. Augusta Health ICU is very fortunate to have such an incredible nurse, and I do hope she is recognized for going above and beyond to help all of us. She was simply amazing.

I can’t thank you enough, Sarah, for what you did for my brother and our family. I will carry this memory forever with me.
