Today I would like to recognize a very knowledgeable, compassionate, kind, and definitely a "quick thinker." Her name is Amanda Gallagher. To know her is to love her! She has the absolutely best personality. She is one of the most caring nurses I know. I was on front desk duty in the ED, and a patient walked in about to fall, so I grabbed a wheelchair and helped him sit. I then started to push him to my desk, and when he fell forward, I stopped. Amanda, checking her surroundings, saw what was happening (he started to have a seizure). She helped him to the floor (mind you, almost due with a baby) so quickly. She called for back-up and a stretcher, and calmed the person who came in with him, all at the same time. She was so quick! Unfortunately, he went into cardiac arrest and passed. I was so sad. I was the one to speak to him last. At the end of my shift, she found me, gave me a hug, and said, "We did all we could possibly do." She was so compassionate. She took a few minutes for me because she knew it made me sad. That is the person she is. It is not just a job for her. She cares about her patients and her co-workers. Amanda is a true example of a DAISY Nurse!
