My son is receiving treatment at Rady Children’s Hospital, and to put it frankly, he hates it. The treatment side of it. He was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, and hates having his port accessed; he hates the chemo, the medicines, the transfusions, and the smell when walking up to the hospital. But Curtis Williams is the exception. Curtis has made such a wonderful impact on my son; he asks for him anytime we have to go to the clinic. Curtis has come in during my son’s fear of having his port accessed and sits with him, sings, and talks to him. He visits him when he’s admitted, making a point to talk to my child as if he’s just a typical kid, and he remembers all of it. Curtis always remembers the important things happening in my child's life. Curtis has the ability to bring joy to my son and so many other kids on the dark side of cancer, and he brings happiness to every room he enters. This is only one of the reasons my son asked Curtis to be the one who holds the bell for him when he’s finished with treatment. Curtis is one of the most special individuals we have ever met; his ability to care for these children is extraordinary. I am forever grateful that in such a difficult time, my son had a nurse as wonderful as Curtis.
