I am honored to nominate Nicole Storbeck, RN, from the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit at the Joseph Sanzari Children’s Hospital, for the DAISY Award. Nicole played a pivotal role in our son’s care, especially on the day of his stem cell/bone marrow transplant. On transplant day, Nicole ensured our son’s safety by focusing entirely on him as her only patient. Her calm and diligent monitoring throughout the procedure gave us peace of mind during such a critical moment. In addition to her expert care, Nicole organized a heartfelt parade of nurses, singing and cheering our son with his “clap-out” song, Don’t Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow) by Fleetwood Mac. It was a gesture that lifted our spirits and made a lasting impression.

Throughout our stay, Nicole took time to engage with our son, playing with him and creating moments of joy that lightened the atmosphere. Her ability to make him smile and interact, despite everything, truly brought a sense of normalcy to an otherwise difficult experience. Nicole's thoughtful presence and professionalism made a real difference. Additionally, Nicole mentored a student nurse during our stay, expertly balancing her teaching role with the exceptional care she gave our son. Her dedication, compassion, and ability to go above and beyond make her a true DAISY Nurse.
