I met a stranger in the ER, but 8 hours later, I was gifted a new family member because that’s how we now feel about Emily. All of the above bullets, “emotional needs”, “made [me] feel safe”, “truly cared for”, how do I convey that Emily provided all of these things and so much more? She gave me the confidence to believe my husband would come off life support and come home.

I entered the hospital thinking I’d leave a widow, but I came home with my spouse. While many people helped my husband to a successful departure, Emily was the most pivotal. We have been married 43 years and counting! We have stories in our journey, and Emily will forever be part of the rest of our story. Emily is the poster child of nursing compassion!
