I would like to nominate Rebecca Dolan, RN, for her exceptional care and dedication to patient well-being during her overnight shift. Her actions not only demonstrated extraordinary clinical skills but also an exceptional level of compassion and respect for her patient's beliefs and needs. During her shift, Rebecca was caring for a patient who had been ordered a clear liquid diet. As a vegetarian, the patient requested vegetable broth to meet her dietary preferences. However, the hospital only provides chicken and beef broth, which are not appropriate for this patient due to her cultural and dietary restrictions.

Demonstrating remarkable initiative and understanding, Rebecca went above and beyond by personally purchasing vegetable broth for the patient without her knowing. This thoughtful gesture was not only a reflection of Rebecca's respect for the patient's beliefs but also her unwavering commitment to providing care that aligns with the patient's wishes. Later in the shift, the patient began complaining of pain, which seemed to be related to a fecal impaction. Despite the patient's discomfort, all conventional pain management avenues had been exhausted. Through her critical thinking and clinical expertise, Rebecca decided to perform a bladder scan, a decision that ultimately revealed the patient had more than 950ml of urine retained in her bladder. Rebecca immediately performed a straight catheterization, draining over 1 liter of urine from the patient's bladder, relieving her of the significant pain she had been enduring. Rebecca's actions not only alleviated the patient's discomfort but also showcased her outstanding clinical skills, quick thinking, and compassionate care. She provided this patient with the utmost respect, treating both her physical and emotional needs with extraordinary attention and skill. Becca's care exemplifies the highest standards of nursing practice.
