My dear friend, L, was admitted to SICU following surgery. She passed away in SICU. She had many very good nurses during her stay, whom we appreciated very much. This nomination is for the nurse who was with us one day, her final day. I arrived knowing that L's husband would instruct doctors to move her to comfort care. A very young nurse greeted me, and I wondered if she would be up to what would happen that day. She took wonderful care of us and L. My doubts about her maturity were absolutely erased as I watched her work hand-in-hand with hospice to provide care for my best friend.

After L passed, we were gathering up her belongings when Grey came back into the room. She gave each of us a small bottle with a cork in the top. Inside the clear bottle was L's EKG printed out. She gave me L's heartbeat. I sleep with that bottle by my bed. Grey is gifted and mature beyond her years!
