Knowing he was safe in her arms, allowed me to close my eyes and truly rest for the first time in days.
After my C-section, I expected physical pain, but I wasn’t prepared for the emotional weight that followed: fear, the exhaustion, the feeling of helplessness. Lying in recovery, unable to move easily or even hold my newborn without help, I felt overwhelmed. That’s when a nurse named Gwynn made a difference I will never forget.

Gwynn didn’t just manage my medical needs, she cared for my heart, too. She noticed my quiet tears and gently reassured me, saying, “You are strong. You just did something incredible.” When I struggled to hold my baby for the first time, she patiently adjusted pillows and monitors to help me cradle him safely in my arms, reminding me that healing takes time and needing help was part of the journey, not a failure. That night, when she saw how exhausted I was, Gwynn made a quiet offer that changed everything

She said she would take my baby to the nursery for a few hours, so I could get some much-needed rest. It was the hardest thing to say yes to, and yet, the greatest gift. She promised to care for him like he was her own, and somehow, I believed her. Knowing he was safe in her arms, allowed me to close my eyes and truly rest for the first time in days.

Gwynn cared for both of us that night, tending to my baby with tenderness and checking on me with genuine kindness. She gave me back the strength I needed to face the coming days of motherhood. In a moment when I felt most vulnerable, she made me feel safe, seen, and deeply cared for. I will never forget her.
