I would like to recognize Teresa Huguley, RN, on our Senior Care Unit. I have known Teresa for many years. At times I am asked to fill in or assist in the Senior Care Dept. I have observed with astonishment Teresa’s abilities and interaction with her patients. I recall one situation when Dr. S called to have a patient evaluated in the ED for erratic behavior. The ERP examined him and found admission was not necessary. The family had brought him from Oxford. The family demanded to speak with a supervisor or with Dr. S. I spoke with the family and told them we could not find anything wrong with their family member, and there was no need to call Dr. S. The patient’s grandson stated his mother could not tolerate the aggressive behavior. I then contacted Teresa; she and K came to the waiting room to speak with the family. Teresa, at eye level, spoke with the patient. It was then that he displayed his aggression, confusion, and psychosis. Without Teresa, his condition would not have been discovered. Teresa brings a sense of order, positive influence, and professionalism to her department. She is an asset to BMH.
