I am nominating Eric for the DAISY Award due to his outstanding care and unwavering dedication to my grandmother during this challenging time. My grandmother is battling stage four lung cancer, heart issues, and the effects of a stroke. As we navigate these final days together, Eric’s presence has been a source of immense comfort and support to both her and our family. From the moment he began caring for her, it was clear that he was not just a nurse but a compassionate, comforting presence who goes above and beyond in every aspect of his role. Eric consistently demonstrates remarkable kindness and empathy, offering not only physical care but emotional support that has made a world of difference for my grandmother. He approaches every task with patience and a gentle, sweet demeanor, always taking the time to listen and make her feel heard and valued. What sets Eric apart is his willingness to go the extra mile to ensure my grandmother’s well-being. He is proactive in identifying solutions to any challenges she faces, often suggesting thoughtful alternatives to help improve her comfort and quality of life. For example, she has struggled swallowing but has been helped with thickened water. Also, she had bowel problems, and he suggested thickened prune juice. And he was very helpful with the next steps in her life. His open-mindedness and innovative approach reflect his deep commitment to providing the best possible care, particularly during such a delicate and emotional time for our family. Eric’s dedication extends far beyond the clinical aspects of nursing. His genuine concern for my grandmother’s overall well-being, paired with his consistent efforts to offer comfort and reassurance, has made saying our final goodbyes a little bit easier.
