I would like to nominate an exceptional nurse for the DAISY Award, whose care, compassion, and dedication went above and beyond during my son's recent hospitalization. My 4-month-old was admitted to the hospital with RSV, a stressful and emotional experience for any parent. Throughout our stay, we encountered several nurses, but this particular nurse stood out from the rest in the most meaningful ways. From the very beginning, it was clear she was more knowledgeable and proactive than others we had worked with. The room we were assigned had several maintenance issues that previous nurses had acknowledged but left unresolved, simply adding them to a list. This nurse, however, took it upon herself to make the space more functional and comfortable for us. She reconnected the phone, replaced the batteries in the soap dispenser, hand sanitizer, and clock - small actions that made a big difference in helping us feel cared for and prioritized. Most significantly, I had mentioned to several nurses that my son seemed to have a sore throat, but after being repeatedly dismissed, I had given up on bringing it up. This nurse noticed his discomfort on her own and asked if we wanted something to help ease it - a moment of validation and care that truly stood out. Her attention and compassion helped make my son more comfortable when he needed it most. She also demonstrated a deep understanding of the equipment, especially the monitor, and was able to quickly and confidently manage it in ways others seemed unsure about. When it came time for discharge, she was incredibly efficient, organizing everything quickly so we didn’t have to wait around, which is often the case. Her combination of professionalism, knowledge, and compassion made a lasting impression on us. She is an incredible nurse who deserves to be recognized for the outstanding care she provides.
