I am honored to nominate the Float Pool nurses at our hospital for the DAISY Team Award. Since assuming the role of their manager in 2021, I have witnessed firsthand their exceptional growth, resilience, and commitment to quality care, excellence, and professionalism.

Teamwork and support are at the heart of our Float Pool nurses. In every evaluation and conversation, a common theme emerges—their commitment to one another and the collaborative spirit they bring to every unit they serve. What makes this team exceptional is its ability to seamlessly integrate into different departments while maintaining a high level of expertise and professionalism.

Beyond their day-to-day work, these nurses demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and organizational improvement. Many former Float Pool nurses have successfully transitioned into specialized departments such as ICU, L&D, and ED, where they continue to thrive and make meaningful contributions.

Our Float Pool team is comprised of 42 highly skilled nurses who are well-respected by their peers and the leadership team. Twenty-two of those nurses are preceptors and are highly engaged in training new hires and TIP nurses. Thirty-eight percent of eligible RNs are participating in the clinical ladder. The turnover rate trailing the last 12 months is 8.25%, which is a 29.85% improvement from 2019 and an 8.45% improvement from last year. In 2024, Float Pool nurses had a total of 24 DAISY nominations with one individual honoree and one team honoree. This success can be credited to their cohesive teamwork and the supportive environment they foster amongst themselves and in collaboration with the broader hospital staff.

Many of our Float Pool nurses are involved in our hospital's shared governance and magnet committees, with some even serving as chairs and co-chairs. Their valuable insights play a crucial role in improving our ability to care for our patients, making a real difference in our ministry. In 2025, the Float Pool UBC was started with current projects to improve the Float Pool certification rate by 10% and to create a helpful guide for the unique needs of each department they float to for new hires. The plan is to evaluate the tool at the end of this year (after implementation with the winter cohort) and then have it be a house-wide tool to assist all new hires.

As their leader, I am humbled by their dedication, adaptability, and impact on patient care. The Float Pool nurses embody the essence of teamwork, expertise, and compassionate care, making them deserving of the DAISY Team Award.Â
