Joyce’s joy I found in her heart for her patients and myself; she cares professionally with grace, tenacity, and compassion.
I was involved in an MVA and transferred to CHI Good Sam in Kearney. I was admitted to the unit with apprehension and concern that I might not be able to meet the demands of the program. It was then, at shift change and during the report, that Joyce came in with a big smile and waved her hand at me. Joyce’s joy I found in her heart for her patients and myself; she cares professionally with grace, tenacity, and compassion. She had a genuine effect on my healing and well-being. Her words of wisdom, with her nursing education, not only help her patients but also serve as a beacon of hope for all who may need her help in the future. She has a burning desire to help her patients. When I was unable to sleep, she advised me to just rest my eyes for 8 hours, and that is what I did. I was also having pain, and she wrapped 2 warm blankets snugly around me, and it helped. She also told me to believe in myself as she did in me. The few nights I had her, she always came in with a smile and waved early reports until she came back in to check on me. I may never see Joyce again, but I will never forget her. This is why I am nominating her for the DAISY Award. Thank you, Joyce!
P.S. Joyce, you changed my perspective on life, and that is a beautiful thing.
