Jan was my night nurse for 2 nights post-c-section. This was my second c-section. I mention this because the difference in my PP care from each c-section is like night and day. Your staff is impeccable; they are ALL clearly highly trained, compassionate nurses who genuinely care about my success, and I believe helped cut my recovery time in half. This hospital is where I felt most cared for, where I thrived and recovered faster. I looked forward to when Jan came back the second night because she made me feel like I was important. She took the time to listen to me, analyze what could be causing what was going on, and offer solutions. She made me feel like my pain mattered, and she took such great care of me with tremendous compassion. From helping me with the restroom (sitting down, changing pads) to working with me for several hours trying to urinate and avoid being re-catheterized, she showed tremendous compassion, expertise, and kindness through her bedside manner. She helped me think out of the box to try and figure out how to get my bladder to get on board. She brought me a cranberry drink to try. Suggested listening to music of running water. I sat forward and then backward on the potty. Utilized the peri bottle and warm water to encourage my bladder to get going. We tried blowing through an imaginary straw, and other techniques. Even though it didn’t work, and I ended up needing a straight catheter to get through the night, I feel better knowing I would need the straight catheter because we had tried everything. It was a bit humiliating, I’ll admit (no doubt due to my own insecurities), but Jan talked me through it and did everything in her power to make me feel as comfortable as she could.

I cannot brag on this nurse enough. I was in tears because I have never felt more cared for or cared about during such a vulnerable time. Jan felt like my Angel on earth. Jan earned my trust right off the bat because she showed expertise and professionalism, which I have rarely seen in nursing staff. Her bedside manner was impeccable, and I would imagine it comes completely naturally to her. She was born for this job. I hope she stays at the bedside for a while and doesn’t leave for leadership too soon. She is a true gem.
