From helping the patient into the shower, to taking on the role of washing her and even wiping her when needed, Haley demonstrates the lead role of a nurse.
From working downstairs in the switchboard with communications to transitioning to a mental health tech on 2N, Haley pushed me to be the great mental health tech I am now. My first week of training, I saw Haley just into restraint that I thought would result in selections until I saw the way she calmed patients down to avoid and found a resolution to their behaviors to never happen again. From that moment, I always knew I wanted shifts with her. A specific moment falls as we had a patient 3 weeks ago who should probably not have been on our unit due to IQ and the difference within our other patients. After figuring out the difference and with the workload of documentations, Haley took it upon herself to join the floor and support this patient. From helping the patient into the shower, to taking on the role of washing her and even wiping her when needed, Haley demonstrates the lead role of a nurse. There have been plenty of times I felt like quitting with the stress put behind us. And Haley would see it and come remind us techs how important we are and that she very appreciates us. Within the past 5 months, we’ve had a very difficult group of kids join our unit, but with all the commotion, Haley always finds a way to make us smile and reminds us it’s okay. Even after long days of seclusion and restraints with minimum documentation and seeing that sometimes 3rd shift has no staff, she stays 2-3 hours later from her shift to make sure everything is in, and 3rd shift is okay before proceeding to leave. Everything about Haley makes me stay at Peace Hospital on 2 North and love mental health. If anyone deserves this award, it’s Haley. Many things can be said about the amount of work and times she’s shown she’s a very well-deserved DAISY Nurse, but I can’t type it. I really hope you consider Haley and congratulate her for actually caring about our patients.
