Kavonne is being recognized for the extraordinary compassion, skill, and empowerment she brought to her care of a stroke patient, and his family. This particular patient was recovering from a stroke that left him with right-sided weakness and aphasia. His wife and daughter visited daily, but they were overwhelmed and unsure how to support his recovery.

Nurse Martin immediately recognized this and went above and beyond, not only providing patient care with incredible patience and dignity, but also taking time to involve and empower the family. She gently taught them how to assist with range-of-motion exercises, how to support his speech using visual cues, and most importantly, reassured them that they could make a real difference.

Thanks to her guidance, his wife became confident and engaged, and his daughter stepped into a more active role in his care. The patient responded with more smiles, more engagement, and meaningful progress in his rehabilitation. Nurse Kavonne Martin didn’t just provide excellent care, she transformed fear into confidence and made the family part of the healing process. Her compassion and dedication truly embody the spirit of the DAISY Award.
