She related to G as a person and not just as a patient.
My 90-year-old husband, G, was treated at WMC because he was hit by a car while crossing a street in town. His injuries were so serious that it was doubtful that he could make a recovery. Most of the time he was at WMC, he was in the SICU. I spent many hours at his bedside and have great praise for all of the nurses who were assigned to him. They were caring, knowledgeable, and efficient. Susan Coughlin was extremely attentive to his health needs. She has a great attention to detail and was quickly on top of any changes to his condition and made adjustments as needed. Such attention to detail was very comforting and reassuring to me because the precariousness of his situation was frightening. I appreciated her nursing skills and the guidance she gave me on ways to be helpful in his recovery. In addition, she was empathetic to G's limited movement and did little things to make his stay more comfortable. For example, she repositioned the furniture (to the extent that it was safe to do so) so he could see the TV without uncomfortably craning his neck. She related to G as a person and not just as a patient. Trusting one's loved one to the care of strangers is very stressful. Susan's knowledgeable and empathetic care was reassuring.
