Heather is an extremely dedicated and hardworking nurse within our ICU. Her awareness, attention to detail, and advocacy for patients each shift is so inspiring. Recently, the ICU had a patient re-admitted to us within a week of discharge due to ongoing health issues. Heather had the patient for both admissions and noticed that the patient's weakness and mental status seemed to be the same or possibly slightly worse than the previous admission. In addition, Heather spoke with the spouse of the patient to see what has been occurring at home, and he expressed his concerns to Heather. With this information, Heather reached out to the provider to request a CT scan of the head just to ensure nothing else was happening since the patient's original reason for both admissions had already been corrected with little improvement to her mental status and weakness. After Heather took the patient for a CT scan, it was found that the patient had swelling and a shift in the brain due to a tumor and needed to be transferred to another hospital. Heather's advocacy and awareness of this patient's condition and overall presentation were amazing in helping this patient get the help they needed. The ICU, our hospital, patients, and community are so blessed to have Heather and her willingness to go above and beyond in her patient care.
