He understands that promoting a healing environment involves more than just giving medications and doing his assessment, but caring for the whole person.
Over the past few years working with Bryton, I have seen him exceptionally care for his patients. He goes above and beyond what is asked of him, treats each person with kindness and respect, and has been a joy to work with. Though I have many examples of this compassion, let me share a few of my favorites. While working with a patient, he noticed the family member was concerned because she didn’t have a ride home. He came to find that the family member has severe dementia and her husband, Bryton’s patient, was her only caretaker. Bryton worked all day to ensure that the family member was taken care of and she could go home safely and with support. He understands that promoting a healing environment involves more than just giving medications and doing his assessment, but caring for the whole person. Bryton had a patient who was transferring from a PCU to the ICU in a rapid situation; the patient was expressing fears and regrets as they were heading into an unknown situation. This patient took Bryton’s hand, and Bryton gave him the moments he could to provide solace and support in the face of this patient's fear. He takes the time to comfort and make sure people understand what is going on in the hospital setting and with their care. Bryton brings a calm confidence to work each day. He is the first to step in when you are struggling and is always willing to offer support, whether it is starting an IV or assisting with a full bed change. Though he is a traveling nurse, his team and charge nurses have seen his leadership ability and ability to teach and he has precepted both students and new nurses to three separate facilities as a traveling nurse. I have heard nothing but excellent feedback from these preceptees. Bryton goes out of his way to make a personal connection with each of his patients. He will sit and chat with his patients for as long as he can to talk about old Zeppelin songs and their shared love of “Miracle on 34th Street”. All in all, he is an exceptional nurse, and I cannot think of a person more deserving of recognition for the care that he provides each day.
