The family was shown great compassion and love because of Lindsay. She gracefully guided them through the scariest and hardest time the parents had to face.
Lindsay was the charge nurse when I went to a delivery, and had to bring the infant to the NICU because the infant’s status was poor. Lindsay took lead in admitting the infant. The infant’s prognosis was poor, and the infant passed away about 36 hours after birth. Lindsay ended up taking care of the infant most of the time. During this time, she showed great compassion to the infant's parents and family. She comforted them and listened to them. She made sure the family was able to see the infant before the infant passed away. When the doctor asked about making the infant's code status DNR, she thoroughly explained to the parents what this meant, answered their questions, and listened to their concerns. This is a very difficult task to do, especially regarding an infant. She handled this task with such grace and kindness.
When the infant began to decline, she spoke to the parents and encouraged them to hold their baby before the infant passed. They were able to enjoy precious hours holding their child. I believe that if Lindsay had not encouraged them to do so, they would have missed out on this precious moment. Throughout this whole process, she took photos and brought them to the parents, as well as keeping them updated with what was happening. After the infant passed, she stayed to give the infant a bath even though she was off the clock and was tired.

Watching her through this period, my admiration for her only increased, and I hope that when anyone else has to face this difficult time in their life, they will have someone like Lindsay. Overall, she treated the patient's family as if they were her own, and provided the most love and comfort a person can show another human.
