We went into the other room to see the patient, and despite how sick he apparently was, lit up when he saw her.
I was brought in to offer my services to a patient in need. Once meeting the patient and the family, and the caregivers, I was hearing time and time again how much this nurse has done for them and how they just love her. The wife of the patient described this nurse as an angel, and they said they don't know what they would do without her.

On another occasion, I witnessed this nurse supporting a wife and the patient, who unbeknownst to us, was going to pass away on hospice care a short time from that day. We went into the other room to see the patient, and despite how sick he apparently was, lit up when he saw her. She said to him, "Tell her another Pelican story." He grinned and recited a short limerick about a pelican that made us all smile and giggle. I could see during this visit not only this nurse's compassion, but her genuine care and kindness for not just this patient, but for this human being. I sure am thankful to be on a team with this nurse!
