From the moment she walked in, she made us feel at ease.
My husband and I just had our first baby, and this nurse went above and beyond to ensure our stay and my procedure went as smoothly as possible. I've been anxious throughout my entire pregnancy and became even more so when I found out that I we would need to schedule an induction. We were admitted late one night and this nurse was there to take over as my day nurse. From the moment she walked in, she made us feel at ease. She addressed my concerns and even readily accommodated my requests for wireless equipment and birthing prep. During this, she not only came in frequently to check in on me but also was extremely careful with me during my cervix checks. These had been very painful for me throughout the process, but she was the only one who was able to make it less so. When a nurse had to temporarily cover for her to give me pain medication and had to perform such a check, it was the most painful check yet. She heard me from the hallway and came almost immediately afterwards, apologized profusely, and promised that only she would perform those moving forward. That reassurance just put both my husband and me at ease.
Additionally, and yes, there's more, when my contractions became more frequent and almost unbearable, I called this nurse and let her know that I was ready for the epidural. Little did I know, her shift was about to end, and the anesthesiologist wouldn't get to me until after the night shift nurse came. Instead of ending her shift as management encouraged, she insisted on staying and hunting down the doctor until I was pain-free. She brought the best doctor, advocated for me when redundant questions were asked, and held me until the procedure was done. Funny enough, I had actually hired a doula for all of this, but she wouldn't have been able to make it on time due to the timing of everything.
The entire nurse staff was just absolutely amazing, but I honestly have no idea what I would've done without this special nurse. She was truly an angel. She still didn't want to leave me afterwards, nor did I want her to go, but she did promise to come see me if my baby happened to come before she was back the following morning. True to her word, she went upstairs to recovery to come check in on me and say hi to my baby. She is truly an all-star and deserves the highest praise for her service. She 100% deserves this award and I don't know what more a nurse could possibly do to obtain this but I'm sure she's already done it. Do yourself and all the future/current moms a favor and don't lose her.
