She stayed to support me as I began pushing and took some of the most precious photos of us on my husband's phone.
Caitlin was an exceptional nurse during my stay, providing care and support throughout my 24-hour labor and delivery. She was with me for over 12 hours, all while she, of course, did her job; it was her unwavering support that truly stood out.
I had hoped for a natural birth without medication, and I was progressing well until my contractions either slowed or stopped. When I was given Pitocin to help things along, the pain became unbearable. I was allowed to shower and was also given Stadol, which was a wild experience. But once that wore off, the pain intensified, and we decided to proceed with the epidural.
I vividly remember sitting on the side of the bed, overwhelmed, and saying I couldn't do this. I'm sure everyone assumed I was talking about the foot-long needle going into my back, but in reality, I was terrified of the birth itself. I didn't believe I could handle it. Caitlin and my husband were there by my side, holding my hand and repeatedly reassuring me that I was doing great and that I could do this.
The epidural worked wonders, and I felt so much better. As shift change approached, Caitlin chose to stay on to help me through the final stages, even though it was the end of her shift. She stayed to support me as I began pushing and took some of the most precious photos of us on my husband's phone. I'll never forget her dedication and kindness. As a nurse myself, it was both touching and inspirational.
Now, with our baby being 8 months old, we are blessed to spend our first Christmas together after praying for six years for this little miracle.
