She came and sat with her, held her hand, spoke sweetly to her, and asked if she could say a prayer.
Our mother/mother-in-law came in with pneumonia and ended up needing hospice. Her nurse checked in on us over and above. We were supposed to be updated once per shift, but this nurse stuck her head in the door, with that soft voice and sweet smile, often to see if we needed anything. At one point, my mother-in-law became very emotional. She was crying but couldn’t express why. I spoke to the nurse with a question, and she said, “Let me come sit a while.” She came and sat with her, held her hand, spoke sweetly to her, and asked if she could say a prayer. She took the time to explain the process of end-of-life stages. Hard to hear, but so helpful to us. She will always be dear to us, and our angel while at the hospital. She got to leave early on our last full day there, and she came by to tell us and make sure we were okay before she left.
